fileinfo
Description
Read metadata for one exact file in the connected vault. Unlike a filename search, this command does not pick an arbitrary match. It provides console output and structured records for AI/MCP consumers.
Syntax
fileinfo -filePath "\Projects\membrane.sldprt"
fileinfo -id 123
Specify exactly one of -filePath or -id. An existing vault login is required.
Parameters
| Parameter | Alias | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
-filePath |
-f |
No | Absolute path inside the connected vault, vault-relative path beginning with one backslash, or path relative to the current folder. |
-id |
No | Positive PDM file ID. Shared files with several parent folders require an exact path instead. |
Finding and inspecting a file
# Search first when you do not know its location.
search -search "Name=%membrane%.sldprt" -recursive
# Use an exact returned path, not a guessed location.
fileinfo -filePath "\Projects\Speaker\membrane.sldprt"
A bare filename resolves only in the current folder. Paths outside the connected vault are rejected. If a shared file ID is ambiguous, the command returns candidate paths and an error; choose one explicit path.
Results and safety
Results include identity and path, current version, revision, workflow state, checkout owner, and available local cache version/status. Unavailable metadata is unknown, not false or zero; inspect item warnings.
fileinfo does not download, check out, or modify the file. Normal licensing and AI approval requirements still apply when invoked through MCP or embedded AI.
print remains available for its existing human-readable file information workflow. Use fileinfo when you need exact-path validation and structured current state/cache information.
See Structured search and file results for response limits and paging.
